Double Cleansing: Why you should be doing it.

There was once a time when we all believed washing our faces with soap and water was all the cleansing our skin needed before we hit the sack and call it a night. Then double cleansing came along, and our bedtime routines were never the same again. Turns out our usual soap-and-water combo (and face wipes) isn’t going to cut it if we want all that gunk and grime off our face after a full day at work (and extended happy hour).

What is double cleansing?

Simply put, double cleansing involves using two different types of cleansers, one right after the other. Double cleansing is a method of cleansing your face twice: First, with an oil-based cleanser and again with a water-based cleanser.

Should You Double Cleanse?

Simply put, double cleansing involves using two different types of cleansers, one right after the other. Double cleansing is a method of cleansing your face twice: First, with an oil-based cleanser and again with a water-based cleanser. Double cleansing isn't a must-do for most people; however, it can be worth it under certain circumstances. For example, if you wear heavy or transfer-resistant makeup and a mineral-based sunscreen, double cleansing ensures you remove both the makeup and the sunscreen, which means the leave-on skincare products that follow can better work their magic.

Double cleansing can also have if you have very oily skin or are finding that your regular cleanser isn't removing enough oil, but that a strong single cleanser is harsh on your skin and leaves it dry. Two gentle cleansers are much better on your skin than one harsh drying cleanser.
